{"id":979,"date":"2011-12-23T18:11:28","date_gmt":"2011-12-23T18:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dur.ac.uk\/paul.hodgkinson\/wordpress\/?p=979"},"modified":"2023-03-09T13:36:10","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T13:36:10","slug":"august-randoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/august-randoms\/","title":{"rendered":"August 2011 Randoms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A somewhat random collection from weekends in August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hepworth Gallery <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/august-randoms\/hepworth\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Hepworth-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Hepworth\" title=\"Hepworth\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5958\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The recently opened Hepworth contemporary art gallery in <a title=\"Wikipedia on Wakefield\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wakefield\">Wakefield<\/a> (or formally the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Hepworth Wakefield\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hepworthwakefield.org\/\">Hepworth Wakefield<\/a>) is one of the largest art galleries outside London. Its permanent exhibitions highlight the work of modernist sculpture <a title=\"Wikipedia on Barbara Hepworth\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barbara_Hepworth\">Barbara Hepworth<\/a>. (R) As part of the surrender agreement, the castle was &#8220;<a title=\"Wikipedia on slighting\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slighting\">slighted<\/a>&#8221; to prevent its further use as defensive stronghold. It is supposed to be edible, but more popular in Chinese rather than Western cooking&#8230; (R) Pretty, but otherwise unexciting, fungus, of the kind that end up in the back of fungus books.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/august-randoms\/gaplarchboletes\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/GAPLarchBoletes-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"GAPLarchBoletes\" title=\"GAPLarchBoletes\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5971\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A pair of Larch Boletes, of which there dozens growing under what were presumably larches. The <a title=\"Wikipedia on Larch Bolete\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suillus_grevillei\">Larch Bolete<\/a>, <em>Suillus grevillei<\/em>, is edible, but it absorbs water like a sponge and like most of the Suillus genus it is not particularly good eating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shipley Glen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/august-randoms\/shipleyglentramway\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/ShipleyGlenTramway-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShipleyGlenTramway\" title=\"ShipleyGlenTramway\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5975\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"Wikipedia on Shipley Glen Tramway\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shipley_Glen_Tramway\">tramway<\/a> in action up Shipley Glen near Saltaire. It used to provide access to an amusement park (long since closed) at the top of Shipley Glen, but is now run and maintained by volunteers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A somewhat random collection from weekends in August.
