The\u00a0 mill has been partially restored, but mostly contains small shops and businesses rather than a museum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/wirksworth-ii\/massonmills2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/MassonMills2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MassonMills2\" title=\"MassonMills2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5948\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rather more interesting was the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Masson Mill\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Masson_Mill\">Masson Mill<\/a>, a later cotton mill built by Arkwright in 1783. Production only finally stopped in 1991.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/wirksworth-ii\/massonmillsdevil\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/MassonMillsDevil-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MassonMillsDevil\" title=\"MassonMillsDevil\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5951\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/12\/wirksworth-ii\/massonmillscarding\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/MassonMillsCarding-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MassonMillsCarding\" title=\"MassonMillsCarding\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5950\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turning raw cotton into thread and fabric was a <a title=\"Wikipedia on textile manufacture\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Textile_manufacturing\">long process<\/a>. (L) Bales of row cotton were pulled apart in this fearsome machine nicknamed the &#8220;Devil&#8221;. It is most known for having isolated itself in in 1665 to stop the spread of the plague. The outbreak lasted 14 months, killing the majority of the villagers.
