The chapel is lavishly decorated with medieval masonry, although the details have been submerged beneath a coat of liquid cement ill-advisedly used to preserve the stonework.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/10\/stirling-falkirk-wheel\/stirlingbridge\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/StirlingBridge-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StirlingBridge\" title=\"StirlingBridge\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5840\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/10\/stirling-falkirk-wheel\/stirlingbridge2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/StirlingBridge2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StirlingBridge2\" title=\"StirlingBridge2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5839\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The splendid <a title=\"Wikipedia on Stirling\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stirling\">Stirling<\/a> Bridge over the River Forth. The <a title=\"Wikipedia on the Battle of Stirling Bridge\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stirling_Bridge\">battle of Stirling Bridge<\/a> (not actually at this location) was a famous victory of the Scots, led by <a title=\"Wikipedia on William Wallace\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Wallace\">William Wallace<\/a>, over the English.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/10\/stirling-falkirk-wheel\/wallacemonument\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/WallaceMonument-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"WallaceMonument\" title=\"WallaceMonument\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5843\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/10\/stirling-falkirk-wheel\/wallacemonumentstairs\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/WallaceMonumentStairs-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"WallaceMonumentStairs\" title=\"WallaceMonumentStairs\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5844\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which neatly leads to the <a title=\"Wallace monument website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalwallacemonument.com\/\">National Wallace Monument<\/a> (L), built as a memorial to William Wallace amidst a great stir of nationalistic pride in the 19th C. The Wheel was opened in 2002, replacing a flight of 11 locks which had fallen into disrepair.
