Pictures from a quick visit to the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton<\/a> (literally “sheep town” in Old English) on what turned out to be the day of their Waterway Festival.<\/p>\n

Perhaps surprisingly given its relatively northerly location, Skipton lies on the Leeds-Liverpool<\/a> canal. The large boat pool at the junction with the short Thanet canal<\/a> is close to the centre of the town, making it a good location for a canal festival.<\/p>\n

What is thought to be an anchorite<\/a>‘s cell. Anchorite would be sealed up in a cell, typically in a church, leaving just a window through which food and drink could be passed (and presumably a chamber pot!).<\/p>\n
