The Standedge tunnel crosses the Pennines and is the longest and highest canal tunnel in the country. Built without a towpath, the narrowboats had to be &#8220;<a title=\"Wikipedia on Legging\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Legging_%28canals%29\">legged<\/a>&#8221; for its 5 km length. Like most of the canal network, it fell into disrepair with the development of the railways, but was restored and reopened in 2001.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/07\/studley-park-and-marsden\/marsdenlunchlake\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/MarsdenLunchLake-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MarsdenLunchLake\" title=\"MarsdenLunchLake\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5741\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cupwith reservoir [53 37 28 N, 1 56 25 W] in the moors above Marsden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/07\/studley-park-and-marsden\/m62bridge\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/M62bridge-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"M62bridge\" title=\"M62bridge\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5739\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Looking down from <a title=\"Wikipedia on Scammonden\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scammonden\">Scammonden<\/a> bridge over the M62. The motorway is carried on the dam of <a title=\"Wikipedia on Scammonden Reservoir\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scammonden_Reservoir\">Scammonden reservoir<\/a> just visible on the right (the village of Scammonden was flooded to make way for the reservoir). This striking bridge was the longest single span concrete bridge when it was built in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/07\/studley-park-and-marsden\/marsdendrovers\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/MarsdenDrovers-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MarsdenDrovers\" title=\"MarsdenDrovers\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5740\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Walking back towards Marsden. The double stone walls on the hill opposite are suggestive of an old <a title=\"Wikipedia on drovers' road\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drovers%27_road\">drovers&#8217; road<\/a>.
