The weather was rather overcast, so the photo record is rather sparse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/allensford\/allensfordpath\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/AllensfordPath-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"AllensfordPath\" title=\"AllensfordPath\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4783\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/allensford\/allensfordtree\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/AllensfordTree-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"AllensfordTree\" title=\"AllensfordTree\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4785\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The white flowering plant in the foreground was wild <a title=\"Wikipedia on Angelica\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Angelica\">angelica<\/a> &#8211; flowers and stems have a curious liquorice\/aniseed flavour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/allensford\/allensfordviaductbelow\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/AllensfordViaductBelow-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"AllensfordViaductBelow\" title=\"AllensfordViaductBelow\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Link to Hownsgill viaduct\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forgottenrelics.co.uk\/bridges\/gallery\/hownsgill.html\">Hownsgill (railway) viaduct<\/a>.  The use of pale brick rather than stone is unusual.  The Stanhope &amp; Tyne railway is long gone, but the deck is now a magnificent high-level footpath.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/allensford\/marshmarigold\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/MarshMarigold-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MarshMarigold\" title=\"MarshMarigold\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4787\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"WIkipedia on Marsh Marigold\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marsh_marigold\">Marsh Marigold<\/a> growing on the reclaimed site of the <a title=\"Link to Consett steelworks\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/nationonfilm\/topics\/steel\/background.shtml\">Consett steelworks<\/a>.   The iron and steelworks, which employed 6000 at its height, closed in 1980, ripping the heart out of this industrial town.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/allensford\/allensfordsulfurpolypore\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/AllensfordSulfurPolypore-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"AllensfordSulfurPolypore\" title=\"AllensfordSulfurPolypore\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4784\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A nice example of a <a title=\"Wikipedia on Sulphur Polypore\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicken_of_the_woods\">sulphur polypore<\/a>.
