The &#8220;cultural&#8221; (theatre, library) parts of the complex were developed as a Millenium project, but the development has continued for several years to include up-market appartments, and a host of dining and drinking establishments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/durham-areas-gilesgate\/edurhamclaypath\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/EDurhamClaypath-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"EDurhamClaypath\" title=\"EDurhamClaypath\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4762\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Claypath [54 46 46 N, 1 34 32 W] was formerly the  easterly route from  the city centre.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/durham-areas-gilesgate\/edurhamterrace\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/EDurhamTerrace-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"EDurhamTerrace\" title=\"EDurhamTerrace\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4771\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leazes Place &#8211; a Regency-style brick terrace <a title=\"History of Claypath\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northeasthistory.co.uk\/the_north_east\/history\/echomemories\/durham\/305\/070905.html\">dating from the 1830s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/durham-areas-gilesgate\/edurhamcompletepolish\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/EDurhamCompletePolish-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"EDurhamCompletePolish\" title=\"EDurhamCompletePolish\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4763\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not a great advert for the Great British construction worker &#8211; a building company priding itself on only employing industrious Polish migrant workers!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/durham-areas-gilesgate\/edurhamgilesgate\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/EDurhamGilesgate-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"EDurhamGilesgate\" title=\"EDurhamGilesgate\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4766\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/04\/durham-areas-gilesgate\/edurhamgilesgategreen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/EDurhamGilesgateGreen-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"EDurhamGilesgateGreen\" title=\"EDurhamGilesgateGreen\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4767\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gilesgate was once a distinct settlement associated with church and hospital of St Giles.
