href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/beamish-town-and-durham-botanical-gardens\/beamishtram-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/BeamishTram-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"BeamishTram\" title=\"BeamishTram\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5652\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Tram at the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Beamish\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beamish_Museum\">Beamish<\/a> open-air museum just north-west of Chester-le-Street.\u00a0 The museum has recently created a &#8220;pass&#8221; entrance, valid for a year, which is ideal for repeat visits from locals &#8211; the site is rather too large for one visit.\u00a0 This first set of pictures is from the Town area [54 53 22 N, 1 39 38 W], which is set in 1913.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/beamish-town-and-durham-botanical-gardens\/beamishgarage2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5660\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple of interesting fungi pictures spotted at the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Witton-le-Wear SSSI\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Witton-le-Wear_%28SSSI%29\">Low Barns nature reserve<\/a> [54 40 40 N, 1 45 7 W] just outside the charming village of <a title=\"Wikipedia on Witton-le-Wear\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Witton-Le-Wear\">Witton-le-Wear<\/a>.\u00a0 (L) the unmistakeable <a title=\"Wikpedia on Hoof fungus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hoof_Fungus\">Hoof fungus<\/a> (<em>Fomes fomentarius<\/em>) &#8211; also known as the <a title=\"Wikipedia on amadou\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amadou\">tinder fungus<\/a>.\u00a0 (R) Possibly the (inedible) Soft Slipper fungus (<a title=\"Wikipedia on Soft Slipper\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crepidotus_mollis\"><em>Crepidotus mollis<\/em><\/a>), but possibly the (edible) <a title=\"Wikipedia on oyster mushroom\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pleurotus_ostreatus\">oyster mushroom<\/a> (<em>Pleurotus ostreatus<\/em>) given that this was February.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/beamish-town-and-durham-botanical-gardens\/durhambotanicstrees3\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ganoderma_applanatum\"><em>Ganoderma applanatum<\/em><\/a>, which apparently and rather oddly can be put to use a drawing medium, hence the alternative name the &#8220;Artist&#8217;s conk&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/beamish-town-and-durham-botanical-gardens\/durhamvelvetshank\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/DurhamVelvetShank-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DurhamVelvetShank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uksafari.com\/velvetshank.htm\">Velvet Shank fungus<\/a> (<em>Flammulina velutipes<\/em>), spotted on a fallen tree on the river banks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/beamish-town-and-durham-botanical-gardens\/miscjelly-feb11\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/MiscJelly_feb11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"MiscJelly feb11\" title=\"MiscJelly feb11\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5692\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Probably a purple jelly fungus, spotted from canal banks near Bradford (early
