Following the A1 all the way round the coast is actually a slightly quicker route, but the A697 via Wooler and Coldstream is a more interesting drive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2007\/09\/st-monans\/coldstreammemorial\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/ColdstreamMemorial-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ColdstreamMemorial\" title=\"ColdstreamMemorial\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4626\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>War memorial in Coldstream. Originally a fishing village (amongst many others on the Fife coast), the fishing fell into rapid decline with the disappearance of the herring shoals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2007\/09\/st-monans\/stmonanswindmill\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/StMonansWindmill-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StMonansWindmill\" title=\"StMonansWindmill\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4623\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Restored 18th century windmill used for the <a title=\"BBC Coast on the St Monans windmill\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/scotland\/whereilive\/coast\/stages.shtml?walk=centralandfife&amp;stage=3\">production of salt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2007\/09\/st-monans\/stmonanssea\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/StMonansSea-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StMonansSea\" title=\"StMonansSea\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4621\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2007\/09\/st-monans\/stmonansrainbow\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/StMonansRainbow-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StMonansRainbow\" title=\"StMonansRainbow\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4619\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather was a bit hit and miss, but at least gave this splendid late evening rainbow (a double rainbow is just visible).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2007\/09\/st-monans\/standrewscathedral\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/StAndrewsCathedral-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"StAndrewsCathedral\" title=\"StAndrewsCathedral\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4624\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ruins of the <a title=\"St Andrews Cathedral on Historic Scotland\" href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-scotland.gov.uk\/properties_sites_detail.htm?propertyID=PL_249\">cathedral at St Andrews<\/a>.
