Given its past as a centre of steel industry and its size (the 4th largest city area in England after London, Birmingham and Leeds), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sheffield\">Sheffield<\/a> is a surprisingly green city and has the rare advantage of being located right next to a National Park (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peakdistrict.org\/\">Peak District<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/sheffield-i\/shefbotanical1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/ShefBotanical1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShefBotanical1\" title=\"ShefBotanical1\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4454\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/sheffield-i\/shefbotanical2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/ShefBotanical2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShefBotanical2\" title=\"ShefBotanical2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4455\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nViews of Shieffield&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbg.org.uk\/\">Botanical Garden<\/a>, which has been extensively restored over the past few years [53 22 20 N, 1 29 56 W].<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/sheffield-i\/shefbotanicalglasshouse\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/ShefBotanicalGlassHouse-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShefBotanicalGlassHouse\" title=\"ShefBotanicalGlassHouse\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4457\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/sheffield-i\/shefbotanicalcacti\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/ShefBotanicalCacti-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShefBotanicalCacti\" title=\"ShefBotanicalCacti\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4456\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Outside and in the modest, but perfectly formed, Victorian glasshouse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/index.php\/2006\/09\/sheffield-i\/shefbroomhill\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/09\/ShefBroomhill-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ShefBroomhill\" title=\"ShefBroomhill\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4458\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Westbourne Road [53 22 24 N, 1 30 5 W] in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broomhillonline.org.uk\/\">Broomhill<\/a> area &#8211; one of Sheffield&#8217;s more upmarket neighbourhoods:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8221; I thought of the leafy district of Broomhill on the western heights of Sheffield, where gabled black stone houses rise above the ponticums and holly, and private cast-iron lamp-posts light the gravelled drives.  Greek, Italian, Gothic, they stand in winding tree-shaded roads, these handsome mansions of the Victorian industrialists who made their pile from steel and cutlery in the crowded mills below.
