The viaduct connected the current Durham railway station to the former North-South <a title=\"Wikipedia on the Leamside line\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leamside_line\">Leamside line<\/a>. Unfortunately recent plans to re-open the viaduct as a cycle route came to nothing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/RigaRiver.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Riga river Daugava\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/RigaRiver-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A frozen Daugava river in <a title=\"Wikipedia on Riga\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riga\">Riga<\/a> in mid February.
