The walk started at <a title=\"Wikipedia on Bourton-on-the-Water\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bourton-on-the-Water\">Bourton-on-Water<\/a>. Like Chipping Campden, Bourton was almost too pretty for its own good &#8211; rammed with tourists and tourist shops.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/UpperSlaughter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Upper Slaughter\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/UpperSlaughter-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Wikipedia on Upper Slaughter\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Upper_Slaughter\">Upper Slaughter<\/a> is one of only 14 &#8220;Doubly Thankful&#8221; villages &#8211; settlements in England and Wales that did not lose a soldier to either of the World Wars.
