The first of three sets of pictures from a holiday in late June \/ early July based in the Cotswolds<\/a>‘ village of Blockley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The nearby village of Broad Campden, on a walk from Blockley to Chipping Campden<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The curiously named Lower Slaughter<\/a>, on the River Eye. The walk started at Bourton-on-Water<\/a>. Like Chipping Campden, Bourton was almost too pretty for its own good – rammed with tourists and tourist shops.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Upper Slaughter<\/a> is one of only 14 “Doubly Thankful” villages – settlements in England and Wales that did not lose a soldier to either of the World Wars. The walk along the River Eye between the Slaughters featured on multiple “must do” lists, but actually the walking was more interesting off this route.<\/p>\n

Broadway Tower and Snowshill Manor<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

(L) The iconic Broadway Tower<\/a>\u00a0was built in 1798-99. (R) It is claimed that 16 counties can be seen from the top, although the immediate views of the Gloucestershire Cotwolds are frankly more interesting than the flat lands beyond the Cotswold escarpment.<\/p>\n

(L) Gardens and (R) part of the collection at the extraordinary, and slightly disturbing Snowshill Manor<\/a> (NT).<\/p>\n

Winchcombe station<\/a> on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire heritage railway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A hot day – plenty of sun cream needed!<\/p>\n

Fascinating medieval wall art in Hailes church, adjacent to Hailes Abbey<\/a> (English Heritage\/NT). The church is actually the older building, dating from 1175.<\/p>\n
