Dunstanburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Castle and Hadrian&#8217;s Wall all exploit the\u00a0escarpments and outcrops of this hard igneous rock formation. This was probably the largest ever battle between the Scots and English, involving over 50000 soldiers. (R) The &#8220;Flodden visitor centre&#8221; in the village of Branxton. Overnight accommodation on the 1st day was at the Ship Inn on Lindisfarne. (R) The magnificent <a title=\"Wikipedia on Barter Books\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barter_Books\">Barter Books<\/a> second-hand book shop in Alnwick is housed in the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Alnwick railway station\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alnwick_railway_station\">old railway station<\/a>. Barter Books has an additional claim to fame as the origin of the UK phenomenon that is the &#8220;<a title=\"Wikipedia on Keep Calm and Carry On\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keep_Calm_and_Carry_On\">Keep Calm and Carry On<\/a>&#8221; poster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cragside<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a
