The ruins of Tynemouth priory<\/a> viewed from the gatehouse of Tynemouth castle.\u00a0 Three of the kings of the ancient kingdom of Northumbria<\/a> were buried at the priory, which was later enclosed by the castle.\u00a0 Both are now in ruins, and the promontory site now houses the Coastguard (visible on the left).<\/p>\n

Picture from the Segedunum<\/a> museum, Wallsend (literally the end of Hadrian’s Wall<\/a>).\u00a0 The weather was too overcast to take pictures of the excavated fort of Segedunum.\u00a0 The picture is from the upper floor of the museum dedicated to the industrial heritage of Wallsend – coal-mining, followed by ship building at the now defunct Swan Hunter<\/a> shipyard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
