(R) The final destination, the Lac du Lauzanier (source of the Ubayette). (R) Scuffling marmots!<\/p>\n<p><strong>5th July<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/RefugedelaPare.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Refuge de la Pare\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/RefugedelaPare-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"Refuge de la Pare website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.refuge-artisanat.com\">Refuge de la Pare<\/a> &#8211; a relatively short, but\u00a0quite strenuous walk from close to the g\u00eete. The locals were quite insistent that we should return via the spectacular (if twisty) <a title=\"Wikipedia on Col de la Bonette\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Col_de_la_Bonette\">col de la Bonette<\/a> rather than\u00a0the longer, but more straightforward route via Digne-les-Bains.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaBonnetteCar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Vintage car at the top of La Bonette\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaBonnetteCar-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaBonnetteBikers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Bikers at the top at La Bonette\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaBonnetteBikers-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vintage car and bikers at the highest point of the road, 2802 m. Although claimed to be &#8220;the highest road in Europe&#8221;, this section is really an additional (spectacularly) scenic loop rather than a through road &#8211; the\u00a0actual pass is much lower at 2715 m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/CimedelaBonette2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Cime de la Bonette\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/CimedelaBonette2-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/CimedelaBonette.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"View from Cime de la Bonette\" src=\"https:\/\/ph-images.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/CimedelaBonette-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Views from the <a title=\"Wikipedia on Cime de la Bonette\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cime_de_la_Bonette\">Cime de la Bonette<\/a> (2860 m).
