Historically the region, the <a title=\"Wikipedia on County of Nice\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/County_of_Nice\">county of Nice<\/a> was\u00a0part of the Italian state of <a title=\"Wikipedia on Piedmont\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piedmont\">Piedmont<\/a> before being annexed to France in 1860. Rather than build corridors inside the building, access in the higher levels is via wooden platforms built into the gap between the cavern and the building (necessary for ventilation). Ingenious! (R) Looking over the tiny village of St Ours over the Ubayette valley.
