The chapel of Queen’s College<\/a>, Oxford taken while re-visiting my old college for a reunion dinner, the Boar’s Head Gaudy<\/a>. The Gaudy was originally a feast for the benefit of students unable to return to the North of England for Christmas, but is now used for college reunions. It was fascinating to see how little people’s personalities had changed over 20 years!<\/p>\n

\"CauseyArch\"<\/a> \"CauseyArchWagon\"<\/a><\/p>\n

(L) Causey Arch is the world’s oldest railway bridge and when built in 1726 was the longest single span bridge in the country (at 31 m). It was used to transport coal in horse-drawn wagons (R) from the Durham coalfields to the docks on the Tyne. Note how in the early days the rails were wooden too!<\/p>\n

Steam locomotive on the Tanfield Railway, which claims to be the oldest working railway on the basis that part of its route and structures date from its days as a wagonway in 1725.<\/p>\n

The Marley Hill engine sheds with their hissing steam engines and oil smells were very atmospheric.<\/p>\n
