The last weeks of December and the first weeks of January brought a spell of freezing weather with almost daily snowfalls. The winter of 2009-10 was the coldest since 1978-79.
The Lumiere festival in mid-November saw Durham lit up with a large number of light installations. The weather wasn’t too kind and it wasn’t on the same scale as Lyon’s Fête des Lumières, but it was spectacular nonetheless (although difficult to do justice to without a high-end camera and tripod).
