(Top) The Norber erratics – a strange plateau scattered with boulders left by a retreating glacier. From a linear walk from Clapham (bus from Settle) back to Settle, via (below) Elaine’s tea room in the hamlet of Feizor.

The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is unusual in being a hike that you have to pay for, since the land is privately owned! But it is a magnificent walk, with plenty of infrastructure (bridges, fencing and walkways) to maintain. The most impressive fall is Thornton Force (top right, middle left). After walking up the gorge of the River Twiss, there is a connecting section to the return leg down the gorge of the River Doe.

Inside the Hoffmann kiln at the former Craven Lime Works just outside Langcliffe. The kiln forms a very large oval, allowing a semi-continuous process of firing part of the kiln while filling and unloading other sections.
