Boston “indoors”:
The Charlesmark hotel, Boston. Very conveniently located [42 21 0 N, 71 4 43 W] close to Copley Square and reasonably priced given the location and facilities (free wireless internet!). You can tell it’s a boutique hotel from the lack of plaster on the walls…
Contrast with the Boston Sheraton, which was part of the conference complex – dull and overpriced.
The cavernous dimly lit interior of the Church of the Covenant, Newbury Street.
The splendid Museum of Fine Arts.
Part of a nice collection of Chinese and Zen Buddhist art.
An interesting furniture piece in which a natural piece of marble resembles an impressionistic Chinese painting.
Pictures from the New England Aquarium [42 21 33 N, 71 2 58 W]. Although not as impressive as the Monterey Bay Aquarium and not that cheap, the aquarium was a good place to kill a few hours before our evening flight back to the UK. The indoor penguin enclosure was a little strange!
Night view of Boston towards the Hancock Tower from the Top of the Hub bar/restaurant on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Tower. You could probably find cheaper martinis elsewhere in the city, but not with this view – a very civilised way to take our leave of Boston. Lights of planes coming in to Logan airport can be seen to the right of the Hancock.
